Tartu Art School
The history of Tartu Art School dates back to 1919. During the period from 1919 to 2001 Tartu Art School existed as secondary and higher education institution under various names. Tartu Art School was formed in 2000, splitting the education in two different institutions – Tartu Art College (applied higher education) and Tartu Art School (vocational education). Tartu Art School is the only institution that is giving solely art-based vocational education in Estonia. Our aim is to give in 4 years universal art education that gives the graduates possibility to work as designers for SME’s, shops, fairs, etc. The objectives of Tartu Art School are to educate artists and designers who are able to design everyday visual environment and be independent artists/designers practicioners. The main aim is to provide graduates with neccesary knowledge and skills to be able to compete on the European labour market. The age of our students is 16-22 and there are currently 80 students (20 students per year). The study program includes graphic design, illustration, animation, interior decoration, decoration of shops and general art subjects. We have a strong background in teaching general arts (drawing, painting, sculpture, composition etc). As we share the premises with Tartu Art College that has 7 departments (photography, media and advertisment design, sculpture, leather art, textile, furniture design and renovation and wall painting and renovation) we are able to share and offer professional teachers from all these fields. Tartu Art School has applied in the end of 2005 to European Social Fund together with Tartu Art College to form a new multimedia curricula in both schools starting 2007/2008. Starting autumn 2006 half of the new students in Tartu Art School will recieve already multimedia specific education. |
